They are a fairy from the Seelie Court who was tricked by the devil Leriac into betraying their Lady Titania and the Lord Oberon. In the ensuing chase, Fian was cursed with three powerful magicks, growing antlers and being trapped in the Material Plane. From there, they were rescued by a group of adventurers and got involved in various journeys. They eventually sacrificed themselves by summoning a black hole, ending a major battle in the God War.

Aaron AikosAaron is the goodest boy. He is a new agent of ANGEL, an agency dedicated to apprehending, containing, and rehabilitating Tokened criminals as well as saving civilians from events such as natural disasters. He was inspired to join ANGEL after his older adopted sibling, August, joined. He acts as the POV character throughout the main Shade story and becomes friends with Blaise.

Aisling is the childhood friend of Zack and Xavier. When they grew up, the three joined a secret-ops unit (alongside Pepper) designed to maintain peace. She is very sweet and acts like a big sister to everyone. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and loves gardening. Her and Xavier loved each other especially. Unfortunately, during their final mission, Xavier and herself both thought the other had died. She went on to live a life without him, dying of old age with a couple children. She is an ancestor of Blaise.

He was inspired as a child to become an ANGEL agent after witnessing agents performing a rescue mission on her town after a series of natural disasters. She's very flirty and beachy. Eventually, he meets Nikole after she is recruited to ANGEL as a scientist and dates her.

Blaise was an engineering child prodigy. When he was young, his parents died in a building collapse and he was sent to live with Xavier, a family friend. After getting several degrees in engineering as a teenager, he dated Nikole for a time. After a messy breakup, he returned to living with Xavier in a small forest town and now works as a blacksmith. He's very smart, but can get very easily distracted, and he likes to joke and use humor to cope with serious situations, leading to him being found annoying.

Eli grew up on the streets and had to resort to fighting in an underground boxing ring to survive. After getting mixed up with the wrong people, he was convinced to help out on hit-job that he got arrested for. After getting out of prison years later, he became a prison guard himself. Due to his Token, he was assigned to Zack's cell, who managed to sway Eli to help him escape. Eli now acts as Zack's right hand throughout the main Shade story. He's very serious, jaded by his hard life, and he is obsessed with being "strong enough".

Nikole CharlestonNikole is a mad scientist. Similar to Blaise, she was a child prodigy. Focused on harnessing the power of Tokens for the average person, she earned degrees in engineering, biology, and more fields. For a while, she dated and lived with Blaise before they broke up. Later on, she would adopt Tyler. Together the pair continue Nikole's work, even if it isn't totally legal. Later, when she meets August, the two begin to date, and Nik works for ANGEL. Nik can be very manic and get tunnel-visioned into her work, often leading her to push those she cares about away from her. In the main Shade story, she acts as a minor antagonist alongside Tyler.

Pepper was Zack's best friend. Fighting along side the Oscoinne twins and Aisling in the secret-ops unit, she quickly grew close to Zack. Unfortunately, a shell put her into a coma that supposedly killed her, causing Zack to grow increasingly unstable. Pepper was very light-hearted and mischievous, always willing to help Zack play pranks or tease his brother.

Tyler VeriTyler is a teen who has lived in the foster system all his life. Born without legs, he believes his parents gave him up due to his birth defect. In an unconscious attempt to get attention, Ty began stealing, eventually becoming a pretty good thief. When he gets caught robbing Nikole, she decides to adopt him and acts like his older sister. Tyler helps steal parts for Nik's inventions and research. He also acts as a test-dummy for Nik's inventions, which usually don't fully work out, but he's happy to try the new prosthetics, crutches, and wheelchairs she makes for him. He's clever, but not smart, and he's very goofy and upbeat. He acts a minor antagonist in the main Shade story, but develops a kiddy-crush on Blaise. When Nik and August first meet, Tyler is the one who first sees their chemistry (despite him having a C in that class, much to Nik's frustration.)

The twin sibling of Zack, Xavier's parents were noblefolk. His childhood was spent trying to adhere to his parent's strict rules. When he acquired his Token, he had to work even harder. He became best friends with Aisling, the daughter of the Oscoinne Manor's gardener, as a child. When they grew up, they fought as part of a secret-ops unit during the war, during which he discovered that his Token granted him a form of immortality. After Aisling's supposed death, he fell into a depression, only finding that Aisling had survived and had a family after she had already passed. Xavier dedicated himself to helping her descendants. In the present, he lives with Blaise in a small village.

The twin sibling of Xavier, Zack always grew up in his brother's shadow. Designated a problem child, he could never live up to his parents expectations. He took the first chance he could to get away from them, joining the army and eventually a secret-ops unit along with Xavier, Aisling, and Pepper. He became very close friends with with her, and his already fragile mental state was shattered when she was killed. Deciding that the world should pay, he engaged in a hostile takeover of a televised political meeting. Failing, he was captured and placed prison for centuries. In the present, he escapes by tempting his new guard, Eli Kreft, with power. Now, he plans to finish his grief-driven revenge.
